Race of Gentlemen – Race Car

Posted by on June 2nd, 2014 with 0 Comments

When I first saw the Race of Gentlemen pictures and videos, I knew it was something that I wanted to be a part of. I’ve always been a fan of reliability runs and races, favoring them over static car shows. While I enjoy a good car show, a sitting car just never gives the car the justice it deserves. So, we decided to throw our hat in and build a pre-war, Muroc, style race car and plan to travel to New Jersey to participate in the Race of Gentlemen this coming October 2-5, 2014. To say I am excited, can’t even explain how I feel right now.

I’ve already started piecing things together and my goal is to have this car race ready well in advance of the event. I’ll be building this as a side project to the three other full builds I have going at the shop here at Clayton’s Hot Rods and the busy car show schedule we have this summer.

Here is what we have so far. The ’29 Roadster body and chassis was from my friend Dave’s father Bruce (an avid car collector and hot rodder) who had recently passed away. Bruce was building the chassis and sedan for touring. He had a built c-motor with unknown internals.

The build plan goes as follows:
– high rise, two carb manifold
– two Stromberg 97 Barn Finds
– high compression head
– vertex mag
– homemade header
– ’39 transmission
– 3.54 geared rear end
– 17″ Kelsey’s
– model A mechanical brakes
– 32′ commercial grille shell
– one piece hood top
– no windshield or headlights
– tonneau cover
– brushed on Washington blue with temporary race lettering
